Due to increased production, Northern Star (Pogo) LLC has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Mine Control Operator at our world-class Pogo operation in Alaska on a rotational camp schedule.

What's the role?

The Mine Control Operator is responsible for monitoring and controlling underground mining operations from the surface-based control room. This role ensures the safe and efficient coordination of personnel, equipment, and critical systems through real-time data analysis and communication. The operator plays a key role in emergency response, shift coordination, and compliance with site and MSHA Safety Standards.

Duties will include:

  • Monitor underground operations using the INMINE control system, in particular the control ventilation fans, mine water flows in accordance with site procedures.
  • Maintain real-time situational awareness of underground activities including personnel and equipment location, equipment status, and planned movements.
  • Log shift activities, equipment movements, and incidents accurately in control room software and daily reports. Assist with emergency response coordination, including activating alarms, contacting rescue teams, and supporting evacuations.
  • Liaise with maintenance and electrical departments to report system faults and assist in planned outages.
  • Assist the Underground Mine Foreman and the Shift Supervisors in achieving daily production targets by communication and coordination of personnel and equipment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) for documentation and accurate reporting.
  • Verify underground personnel by cross-checking the physical tag board with PITRAM records to ensure accurate headcount and personnel accountability at all times.

The specifics:

  • Current US Drivers Licence.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification, including Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • Experience in a similar position or experience in a supervisory or coordination role in an underground mining environment.
  • Experience with INMINE 3.
  • Knowledge of the machinery and equipment in use in an underground mining operation.
  • Knowledge and experience in radio communications using multiple channels.
  • Computer aided dispatch system.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong computer literacy and ability to use control and monitoring software.
  • Excellent verbal communication and coordination skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
  • Familiarity with underground mine safety regulations (MSHA).
  • Emergency response training or incident command system knowledge.

The Details:

Working a 2 week on, 1 week off rotating schedule of days and nights, up to 12 hours a day or more at a remote campsite. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.

Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms. Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, great Wi-Fi & cable TV. Cell service is available through Wi-Fi. The Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska.
