Overview District Veterinary Hospital - Eastern Market has an opportunity for a full-time Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our team! Sign on Bonus * $3000 * for qualified candidates Location: 240 7th St SE, Washington, DC 20003 Shift Details: This is a full-time position, usually consisting of three 10-hour shifts and a 6-hour shift every Saturday; we do try to be as flexible as we can with scheduling. Compensation: $27 - $33, open to discuss for the right experience. Skills: Required skills include proficiency in venipuncture and confident restraint abilities, with a preference for using Fear Free techniques whenever feasible. The candidate must be adept at safely managing animals that are difficult or exhibit aggressive behavior. Hospital Hours: Monday - Thursday 8:00 am – 7:00 pm Friday 8:00 am – 6:00 pm Saturday 8:30 am – 2:00 pm Sunday Closed We have a 6-doctor AAHA accredited animal hospital looking to add a Licensed Veterinary Technician to our team. We offer a wide variety of services at our hospital, including soft tissue surgery, dentistry (with two dental tables), and therapeutic laser and ultrasound. Our practice aims to utilize licensed veterinary technicians to the full extent of their licensure. We practice Low Stress handling techniques, and a number of our team members are Fear Free certified. We also love technology – for example, our doctor team utilizes Scribenote, a medical transcription software that substantially cuts down on record completion time, and we recently transitioned to ezyVet practice management software. We also place a high emphasis on continued education for our full team; for instance, our doctor team has completed GlobalFAST ultrasound training, which is also available to interested LVTs! Responsibilities Major Duties: Our Veterinary Technicians are responsible for in-patient medical care: administer medications, assist or perform treatments, diagnostics & monitoring, place IV catheters, draw blood, run lab tests, administer IV fluids, cleaning, feeding, and walking patients as needed. Anesthesia/Surgery – Our Veterinary Technicians prep, induce, maintain, monitor, and recover patients, clean/maintain/sterilize anesthesia equipment and surgical instruments. Dentistry - Our Veterinary Technicians provide patient dental care, ultrasonic cleaning and polishing, and assist the doctor with dental surgery. Radiology - Our Veterinary Technicians position patients and assist with radiographs, sending radiographs via email. Laboratory duties - Our Veterinary Technicians are responsible for collecting, preparing, and running or submitting samples for requested tests; reading and recording results when indicated (fecals, urines, ear cytology, etc.) when requested by the doctor. Preparing invoices, discharge instructions, and client informational tools. Client communication for hospitalized patients - give patient updates, discharge instructions, and provide follow-up for certain hospital patients. Client medical demonstrations/education - teach/educate clients on at-home care procedures. Veterinary Technician appointments - blood draws for therapeutic monitoring/screening tests, bandage changes, post-op checks, suture removals, AG, TNT. Clinic technician - assisting the doctor with outpatient appointments, preparing, restocking, cleaning exam rooms, checking patients in and out, taking history and vitals, inputting data into patient medical records, ensuring a smooth and timely flow of outpatient appointments from check-in to discharge. Assist with reception/front desk duties as needed - answering phones, booking appointments, admitting/discharging patients. Assist in training and mentoring new team members. Assist with inventory control – informing the inventory manager when products are getting low/out, unpacking, restocking drug & medical supplies. Preparing prescriptions - dispensed medications & medication refills. Qualifications Physical Requirements: The veterinary technician must have the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds and over 50 pounds with a coworker. The veterinary technician must be able to endure sitting, standing, and walking on hard floor surfaces for extended periods of time. The veterinary technician must possess sufficient ambulatory skills to perform duties while in a hospital environment. The veterinary technician must be able to work in noisy work conditions with sounds from animals and equipment that can be moderately high. The veterinary technician will be routinely exposed to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch, and on occasion, exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and medication/controlled substances.
