Position Title: Design Assistant (Contract)
Location: DMV Area (Hybrid – Remote + On-Site)
Compensation: $25/hour | Part-Time, Up to 30 Hours/Week
Start Date: ASAP

About the Role

We’re seeking a highly organized, creative, and dependable Design Assistant to join our interior design studio on a contract basis. This part-time role offers the opportunity to work closely with a Principal Designer on high-end residential projects throughout the DMV area. The ideal candidate is a resourceful self-starter who thrives in both the creative and logistical sides of the design process.

This is a hybrid role involving a mix of remote work, local travel, and on-site support. Candidates must be local to the area and comfortable managing both design and administrative tasks with professionalism and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Creative Support

• Source furniture, fixtures, materials, fabrics, and accessories

• Assist in preparing mood boards, presentations, and design packages

• Help draft and revise floor plans, space plans, and elevations

• Maintain and organize the material library

• Conduct design-related research and product comparisons

Project Coordination

• Schedule vendor appointments, site visits, and installations

• Communicate with vendors and trades to confirm specifications, availability, and timelines

• Track orders, lead times, and delivery status

• Assist in updating project timelines and documentation

Administrative & Logistical Tasks

• Manage the principal designer’s project calendar and appointment scheduling

• Run errands as needed: pick up samples, process returns, deliver items to job sites

• Maintain records for receipts, purchase tracking, and client budgets

• Prepare for install days and coordinate delivery logistics

Install & On-Site Support

• Assist during installations and styling days

• Help ensure items are placed correctly and styled per the design plan

• Support photoshoot prep and on-site troubleshooting

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of experience in an interior design, architecture, or styling role (or strong internship experience)

• Proficiency in design software preferred (SketchUp, AutoCAD, or similar)

• Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills

• Strong attention to detail and ability to take initiative

• Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license

• Ability to lift/move light furnishings and be on your feet during installations

Compensation & Perks

• Independent Contractor position at $25/hour

• Part-time , up to 30 hours per week
