This position is located at our San Diego, CA location and reports to the Director of Design Engineering. Rock West Composites, Inc. is an engineering and manufacturing company dedicated to providing innovative solutions for aerospace and defense customers. Position Summary: The Composite Design Engineer will be able to design, model, and generate drawings of deliverable products, molds, tooling and fixtures in collaboration with program management, customers, other engineering team members, manufacturing engineers and production personnel. Design work is primarily conducted in Solidworks.

• Perform computer-aided design of components and subsystems primarily using SolidWorks to program specifications for performance, cost, schedule.
• Working knowledge of aerospace composite materials, manufacturing processes and integrated design of advanced structures that are lightweight, dimensionally stable, designed for manufacturability, and high precision.
• Perform design of composite molds and tooling, trim tooling, assembly jigs, and quality inspection fixtures to support production activities.
• Work with teams of design and manufacturing engineers on integrated projects to establish clear lines of communication and support project schedule, supply chain, and incorporate in-process design changes.
• Participate in customer product design reviews (PDR, CDR, MRR etc) and interact with project management regarding design refinements.

Education and Experience:

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Structural Engineering
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD programs
• Working knowledge of drawing standards including GD&T practices
• Minimum of 2 years’ relevant composite design experience
• Experience with composite tooling including interaction with manufacturing engineering and production staff.
• Knowledge of MSOffice suite: Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Teams
• Desired: Ability to obtain security clearance
