Job Description
My client, a boutique CPA firm based in New York City, is seeking a motivated and well-rounded Accounting professional to join their growing team. They are seeking someone who is eager to work in a collaborative environment, engage directly with clients, and develop across multiple service lines.
The firm specializes in tax strategy, financial reporting, and advisory services for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and trusts. Their clients span a range of industries including professional services, crypto and fintech, real estate, and small businesses. They are known for their highly personalized approach, technical rigor, and long-term client relationships.
The Accounting professional will be responsible for a mix of financial reporting, tax, and assurance-related work. This role offers hands-on experience across multiple disciplines and the opportunity to lead engagements, interact directly with clients, and mentor junior staff. It’s ideal for someone with a strong accounting foundation who is looking for variety, responsibility, and growth.
This is a NYC based role with 4 days minimum on site.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Financial Statement Preparation & Review
Prepare and/or review financial statements in accordance with GAAP or other relevant frameworks.
Ensure all deliverables are accurate, complete, and compliant with applicable standards.
2. Audit & Assurance Engagements
Lead fieldwork for assurance engagements including reviews and compilations.
Coordinate with clients and internal staff to manage the engagement lifecycle.
Identify and assess risks and control deficiencies; suggest actionable improvements.
3. Tax Preparation & Planning
Prepare and review tax returns for corporations, partnerships, and individuals.
Conduct tax research related to PTET elections, retirement plan strategies, 1031 exchanges, and other planning opportunities.
Advise clients on compliance and proactive tax-saving strategies.
4. Client Interaction
Serve as a trusted point of contact for assigned clients on day-to-day matters.
Understand client business models to offer relevant financial and tax insights.
Build strong, long-term client relationships through responsiveness and thoughtfulness.
5. Supervision & Training
Supervise junior accountants and interns, including reviewing workpapers and deliverables.
Provide on-the-job training, coaching, and feedback.
Assist in onboarding and mentoring of new hires.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; CPA or progress toward CPA (strongly preferred).
Minimum of 4 years of public accounting experience in tax and/or assurance.
Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Proficiency with accounting and tax software (e.g., QuickBooks, UltraTax, CCH, etc.).
